It's a kiwi Christmas !

What a great day we all had today.
We performed so well at our Christmas concert this morning Mrs B and our families were very proud of us. We had a great time.
Then after that we were very excited because we had a special visitor -Santa Claus arrived and gave us all a lollipop.

Dinosaurs

Dinosaurs!
I am a T-Rex. I have shiny teeth and reddish brown skin. I'm as big as a school and I love to eat red meat!!
When I walk my big huge feet make cracks in the ground. The ground opens up and the crack is as wide as a classroom, I go stomp! stomp! stomp! Through the forest to catch little dinosaurs for dinner.

ROAR!
I am a ferocious stripy dinosaur. I'm more fierce than any other animal. When I see another dinosaur I chase it and hunt it down. Then I eat it. I'm as fast as a flash of lightning. Blood drips down my chin. I love it. When I'm running I really stand out because I'm as yellow as the sun.
I was running so fast I didn't see the fire and I fell into it and burned up to dust.

Ferocious Dinosaurs!
I am a ferocious, cantankerous, massive spotty dinosaur!!
I have a flower in my hair to make other dinosaurs come close to me, then I show off my sharp spiky teeth and gobble them all up. I am as tall as a skyscraper and as long as a bus!

Dinosaurs Roar
I am a spotty and ferocious dinosaur with a very loud and scary roar!
I eat leaves and carrots and I'm a herbivore. I'm also a carnivore because I like eating other animals.I've got enormous spiky teeth to crunch the carrots. I thump loudly through the forest looking for other dinosaurs to play with. I trick them because I pretend to play with them and then I pounce! I'm as mean as a t-Rex!

Dinosaurs
I am a ferocious dinosaur. I stomp through the forest like a wild animal. I am as colourful as a bright butterfly. I chase the other dinosaurs and dance in the rain with my friends. I eat meat and leaves until I feel full.

I am a ginormous friendly dinosaur that eats leaves from the trees in the forest.
I am taller than the trees, I can see above the trees on the island where I live with the other dinosaurs and my family. I am as tall as a mountain.

Scary Dinosaurs
I am a spiky and ferocious dinosaur. My name is Spiky. I live in a cave in a forest. I am camouflaged because I'm brown and green and can hide. I am as strong as a giant. When I see another dinosaur I sneak up on it and hunt it down to eat it. I love eating the dinosaurs I catch and then I go thumping back to my cave.

I have bright orange skin and when I walk the ground shakes. I hunt other dinosaurs and eat them.
When I roar it is so loud that the trees shake.

Athletics

Athletics by Room 4
On Thursday 20th November we had our athletics day with the other classes in the Junior team. We had practised a lot and were very fit. And excited.
First we lined up with all the classes. Then we walked off to do our first activity - the long jump. After that we did lots of sports and races. It was quite hard to do the egg and spoon race because the egg could fall off easily. The high jump was cool and we liked watching people jumping higher and higher. Finally we had the year 2 final of the long distance race. We were all getting tired but had a great time because we felt proud of ourselves. We want to have athletics day every day!

Popcorn

Popcorn

On Ms Robiero's last day in Room 4 we made popcorn for a farewell party. First we made popcorn in the popcorn maker. Then we put butter and salt on it. After that we put the popcorn in the big plastic bowls. Then we set up the tables with popcorn, lollipops and drinks. We used big pieces of paper to spread over the tables so the tables would not get messy. Finally we had the delicious popcorn, spectacular lollipops, delicious Freddo frogs and fizzy lemonade. It was an amazing and sad party because Ms Robiero's was leaving Sumner School. We hope we see her soon.

Art lessons

Recount by Bella
We had an art lesson with a teacher from the Christchurch art gallery. She taught us how to paint flowers. First we drew the outline of the flowers in the vase. Next she showed us how to paint correctly, mixing colours together and using thick brushes for the sky and background. Then we painted our pictures. Finally we painted with the little brush to colour little spaces. We loved our lesson because our paintings were brilliant!

Sand sculptures at the beach

Room 4 have been learning about writing recounts. We went to the beach on Thursday and all wrote a recount when we returned to school.

Today Rooms 4, 5, 6 all went to the beach make sand sculptures. First I dug sand for Carl and Luca. Then I made a skeleton and a Halloween pumpkin. After that I got sticks for Carl. Finally we went back to schooled had morning tea. I loved it because we had so much fun.

Week 1

What a great start we have had to term 4. The weather has been sunny and warm and everyone is very happy to be back at school.
We have a new student in Room 4. Simon has moved from Cashmere School and before that his family moved to NZ from Hungary. A big welcome to Simon and his family. We are also thrilled to welcome Ms Ribeiro back to Room 4. She will be with us for four weeks.

At Discovery Time today we were very busy creating, dancing and building.

Cricket lesson

Thanks to Canterbury Cricket the children all enjoyed a cricket lesson on Tuesday. I'm sure we have some future Black Caps and White Ferns in our midst.

Kite flying

We had a beautiful day on Wednesday with perfect conditions to fly our kites at Sumner Beach. We returned to school with lots of enthusiasm to write some great stories.
This is a class story we also wrote with the children thinking of lots of adjectives and action words to make our story interesting.

It was a very sunny and warm day on Wednesday when we all excitedly lined up at school to walk to the beach to fly our kites. When we got there we were happy and pleased to see that it was windy- perfect conditions for kite flying.
We flew our bright and colourful kites really high in the sky. They swooped and dived and swirled around in the wind. We loved flying our kites because they soared through the air.

Paper planes

We have been having great fun making different types of paper planes this term and flying them to see how far they go, how high they go and how long they stay up. When we have finished making them all we will predict which ones are the fastest and highest and have a plane flying experiment/ competition.

Science lesson with Julie

We were very lucky recently to have a science lesson about air with Julie - a specialist science teacher. We did some experiments and learnt about the language of science. We predicted what would happen, then we observed what happened and then Julie explained it all to us.
